THE FOUNDER

Visionary Leadership

Ms. Tapasya Sharma, Founder of Tarangini Foundation, has rendered exemplary and sustained service in the field of environmental conservation, river rejuvenation, solid waste management, afforestation, and community awareness in Panchkula, Haryana. Through her visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to environmental protection, she has transformed voluntary action into a people’s movement, inspiring citizens, educational institutions, and community organisations to actively participate in preserving natural resources and promoting sustainable living.

Restoration of River Ghaggar

One of Ms. Sharma’s most significant contributions has been her relentless efforts towards the restoration and conservation of the River Ghaggar. Over the years, she has regularly organised and led riverbank cleanliness drives involving volunteers, students, resident welfare associations, and civil society groups. These campaigns have focused on the systematic removal of plastic waste, polythene bags, discarded clothing, glass bottles, thermocol, construction debris, religious offerings, and other non-biodegradable waste dumped along the riverbanks.

Through these initiatives, she has not only improved the cleanliness and ecological health of the river corridor but has also promoted scientific solid waste management by ensuring that the collected waste is segregated and channelled for appropriate disposal, recycling, or processing wherever feasible. Her work has significantly contributed towards reducing pollution and restoring the ecological integrity of the River Ghaggar.

Afforestation & Green Cover

Recognising that environmental conservation extends beyond cleanliness, Ms. Sharma has also spearheaded numerous tree plantation drives across Panchkula. Under her leadership, native and ecologically suitable tree species have been planted in parks, educational institutions, public spaces, roadside areas, and other community locations to increase green cover, improve biodiversity, mitigate the effects of climate change, and enhance the urban environment.

She has consistently advocated that plantation must be accompanied by nurturing and protection, thereby ensuring better survival and long-term ecological benefits of the planted saplings.

Community Awareness & Education

Equally noteworthy are her extensive awareness campaigns conducted in schools, colleges, universities, and educational institutions throughout Panchkula. Through lectures, workshops, interactive sessions, environmental campaigns, and practical demonstrations, she has sensitised thousands of students and citizens about river conservation, biodiversity protection, responsible waste disposal, and sustainable environmental practices.

A major focus of her outreach has been creating awareness regarding the segregation of wet and dry waste at the household level, encouraging citizens to adopt scientific waste management practices and reduce the burden on landfills. Her initiatives have empowered individuals to become active stakeholders in environmental protection by promoting waste reduction, recycling, composting, and responsible consumption.
